The West Catholic High School Choir recently returned from the trip of a lifetime, performing at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City on Sunday, Feb. 16. Thirty-four West Catholic students sang at a special concert, “Voices in the Hall – The Compassion of Christ: A Journey of Justice, Hope, and Peace,” which brought together 175 voices from across the United States to share a powerful and inspiring performance.
West Catholic’s choir had the distinct honor of opening the concert with two solo pieces—an opportunity given to no other group. After their solo performance, the students joined the full ensemble for the remainder of the concert, which featured works by three acclaimed Catholic recording artists: Janet Sullivan Whitaker, Jesse Manibusan and Curtis Stephen.
“This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our choir,” said WC Choir Director Joe Houdek. “To stand on the stage at Carnegie Hall, where so many legendary musicians have performed was an honor beyond words.”
Outside of rehearsals and their unforgettable performance, the choir had the opportunity to explore New York City—enjoying Broadway shows, strolling through Central Park and visiting iconic landmarks. A particularly meaningful moment came when they paused to sing the National Anthem outside the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, honoring those who were lost [see video here].
The West Catholic community is incredibly proud of the choir for sharing their talents and representing the school with excellence during their time in NYC.
