Scholarships

Our goal is to provide a Catholic education for all who wish to receive one, regardless of their financial situation. Families of West Catholic students can apply for a variety of scholarships. A large number of named scholarships are available for students who meet the necessary requirements.

​​​​​​​General Criteria for Scholarships

  • Regardless of which scholarship(s) you are applying for, you must complete an application via Blackbaud (School ID: 13306). Click HERE for instructions on how to apply or visit our Applying for Aid page to learn more about Blackbaud.
  • The scholarship selection committee is comprised of the President/CEO of West Catholic High School and other administrative faculty members.
  • All scholarships are awarded directly to the student’s tuition account. No money will be given directly to the student or their family.

Scholarship Deadline: Monday, December 15, 2025, 4 p.m.

Scholarship and grant award notifications will be mailed in the beginning of February.

Fill out the scholarship application form (linked above). Please note that scholarships may require attachments such as essays, letters of recommendation, verification of community service, previous year’s GPA or any other documentation.

IF APPLYING FOR MORE THAN ONE SCHOLARSHIP, YOU MUST SUBMIT A SEPARATE APPLICATION FORM FOR EACH SCHOLARSHIP.

The scholarship will be awarded directly to the student’s tuition account. No money will be given to the student or their families.

West Catholic Legacy Funds Scholarships

West Catholic offers new and returning students dozens of scholarships through our Legacy Funds. Established through the generosity of donors, these scholarships are awarded based on a variety of criteria (both need and non-need-based). Our endowed scholarships live in perpetuity to ensure we are able to provide generations of Falcons with a dynamic, excellence-driven Catholic education.

AMDG ARCHITECTS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $1,200

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students of Hispanic/Latino heritage entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. Students may reapply annually if conditions are met.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be have completed a minimum of 20 hours of community service in the past year.
  • Parent(s) or guardian(s) of the applicant must agree to attend parent/teacher conferences.

To Apply:

  • Please include your current grade point or equivalent with your application materials.
  • Please provide a list of community service activities.
  • Two references from teachers, mentors, administrators, pastors or advisors must accompany the application.
BERTRAM FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,400

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. It is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may reapply each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be a member of Holy Spirit Parish.
  • Applicants must show a strong educational interest and dedication to learning.
  • Applicants must have acceptable character and behavior.
  • Applicants must demonstrate leadership through academic achievements and community service while at Holy Spirit and West Catholic.

To Apply:

  • Please list all academic achievements received at Holy Spirit and West Catholic High School.
  • Please list activities that you have been associated with in grade school and high school (seminars, workshops, books read.)
  • Please list all volunteering experiences in the Greater Grand Rapids area.
  • A one-page letter of recommendation from a teacher, mentor, administrator, pastor or advisor must accompany the application.
BILL & COLLEEN ROTH & FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,000

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. It is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may reapply each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must be registered members of a parish in the Diocese of Grand Rapids, with priority given to those who attend Holy Spirit Parish.
  • Applicants must have attended a Catholic elementary school.
  • Applicants must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 (B average) or higher.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must submit evidence of their cumulative GPA (report card, transcript, etc.).
  • Applicants must submit a one-page essay on why attending a Catholic elementary school had a positive impact on them personally. Applicants should use specific examples from their experiences.
BISHOP HURLEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $3,200

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Special consideration will go to single-parent households.

To Apply:

  • Please submit a one- to two-page paper describing your life journey.
BOB & PAT MISNER TUITION SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $800 (multiple scholarships to be awarded)

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher or a recommendation from the counseling department.
  • Applicants must have fulfilled their high school community service requirements for the year.
  • Applicants must be respected by the teachers, students and administration of West Catholic High School in the opinion of the principal.
  • Applicants should be involved in school activities outside of the classroom and should be a loyal supporter of West Catholic.

To Apply:

  • Applicants need to submit a letter from a responsible adult explaining why they feel they should be considered for the scholarship.
  • Applicants must write an essay (not to exceed 400 words) on how West Catholic has helped make them a better person academically, socially and religiously.
BOB “SARGE” & CHARLENE CZARNECKI FUND

Award: $1,500

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore or junior year.

  • Financial need is not a necessary requirement for this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be of either Polish or Lithuanian descent.
  • Applicants must have an ancestor who served in the military, either in the United States or in their native country.

To Apply:

  • Proof of ancestor’s military service, such as copies of honorable discharge papers, record 
CAPTAIN KEVIN CZARNECKI SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: Varies

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman year. It is a one-year scholarship.

  • Priority will be given to a graduate of St. Anthony
  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.

To Apply:

  • The student(s) receiving this scholarship will be chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee from the pool of students applying for financial assistance. No specific application or action is necessary.
CYNTHIA (WISZ) KNEIBEL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $2,200

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. The award may be divided between multiple students. It is a one-year scholarship or may be awarded for multiple years.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Special consideration will be given to students who are first- or second-generation refugees/immigrants, students fleeing war or political instability in their home country, or students with other unique hardships or challenges in their lives.
  • International students may be considered at the discretion of West Catholic leadership.

To Apply:

  • The leadership of West Catholic will determine the recipient(s) of the scholarship.

The student(s) receiving this scholarship will be chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee from the pool of students applying for financial assistance. No specific application or action is necessary.

CZERNEY-SZOKA SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $3,400

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their​​​​​​​ freshman year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 (B average) in grade school.
  • Applicants must have completed 20 hours of community or church service in the eighth grade.
  • Applicants must be in good standing at their present school and have an outstanding attendance record.
  • Applicants must be of good character and demonstrate consistent respect for authority.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must write an essay (not to exceed three pages) explaining how you and your family have followed the values promoted by St. Thomas Aquinas:
    • Prayer

DAVID A. VENEKLASE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,200

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. It is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may be reconsidered each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.

The student(s) receiving this scholarship will be chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee from the pool of students applying for financial assistance. No specific application or action is necessary.

DAVID M. SEAMON "LEADERSHIP" SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,000

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to juniors entering their senior year at West Catholic or Catholic Central.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must be of good character and demonstrate consistent respect for authority.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must write a one-page essay describing current leadership in the community and in high school.
DEACON ED & JOANNE HARWOOD ANGEL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $1,700

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must consistently demonstrate the effort and desire to reach their full educational potential.
  • Applicants must demonstrate good character and consistent respect for authority.
  • Applicants must be willing to reimburse the scholarship funds if and when they reach the financial capabilities to do so.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must write an essay that answers: “Why is it important that you continue your education at West Catholic High School?”
DOUGLAS & ARLENE LILLIS SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $900

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman year at West Catholic or Catholic Central and is renewable for one year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be in good standing with no current student or athletic probations.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must write a personal essay describing their desire to attend West Catholic.
ED WAGNER TUITION ASSISTANCE FUND

Award: $2,000

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must complete a two-page essay describing how they have overcome or are overcoming obstacles or challenges in their personal life and explain why this scholarship will make a positive difference in the quality of their life.

Sixty percent of the scholarship money is to be awarded to C students; 40 percent of the scholarship money is to be awarded to A-B students. If no applicants meet the criteria in the given year, the allowed spendable dollars may be used for the General Tuition Assistance Fund.

FALCON MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $2,000

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman year who graduate from a diocesan partner school.

  • Financial need will be considered.
  • Consideration will be given to area students north of Grand Rapids (northern Kent and Newaygo/Montcalm counties).
  • Applicants must participate in choir and/or band.

To Apply:

  • Submission of a letter of recommendation from a current or future music/band director is required.
FEWLESS AND GACA FAMILY MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: Varies

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. It is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may be reconsidered each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.

To Apply:

  • The student(s) receiving this scholarship will be chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee from the pool of students applying for financial assistance. No specific application or action is necessary.
FRANCIS & GLORIA RASCH FAMILY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $1,000

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year who have successfully completed at least one academic year as a student at West Catholic. This is a one-year scholarship, although recipients are welcome to reapply each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants should be well-rounded and active in their school and community.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must write a two-page paper describing their involvement in areas such as academics, extracurricular activities, community service, participation in the faith life, the arts or any other areas in which they are involved.
FRANCIS J. GEARY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,000

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to current juniors entering their senior year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must write a one-page essay (not to exceed 500 words) that answers the following questions:
    • What does Catholic education mean to you?
    • How has an education at a Catholic high school impacted you?
    • What are your short- and long-term educational/professional goals?
    • How will you use your Catholic education in the future to improve your community?
    • How many volunteer/community service hours have you completed each year at school?

This is not exclusively an academic award. It is an award that recognizes a blend of academic effort, loyalty to family and friends, service to the school and the community, and respect for other people and their views.

FRANK DIEHL LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,700

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. This is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may reapply each year.

  • Financial need will be considered.
  • Applicants must be diligent students and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Applicants must be a member of Holy Spirit Parish.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to others through community service and parish activities.

To Apply:

  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher, mentor, pastor or advisor must accompany the application.
  • Applicants must submit an essay on what receiving this scholarship would mean to them.
GRACE "BONO" SLOTT ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,600

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B average) or higher.
  • Applicants must be of good character and have demonstrated consistent respect for authority.
  • Applicants must have an outstanding attendance record.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must write a one- to two-page essay explaining why they feel they should be considered for this scholarship.
HUNTER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $2,000

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. It is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may reapply each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must be registered members of a parish within the Diocese of Grand Rapids.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher or a recommendation from the Counseling Department.
  • Applicants should be involved in school activities outside of the classroom (ex. band, music, athletics, community service, etc.) and should be loyal supporters of West Catholic High School.

To Apply:

  • Submit a list of academic achievements received at your grade school and West Catholic High School.
  • Submit a list of activities you have been associated with in grade school and high school, including volunteer activities, community service, athletics and other extracurricular programs.
  • Applicants must write a one- to two-page essay on how Catholic education has and will make them a better person academically, socially and religiously.
JOHN L. YOUNG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $1,000

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. It is a one-year scholarship but may be renewed for all four years.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must be of African American, Latino or other minority heritage.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must complete a one- to two-page essay describing the rewards and challenges minorities face in America today.
KLUTING FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $3,800 (multiple scholarships to be awarded)

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. This is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may reapply each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be a member of Holy Spirit Parish and attended Holy Spirit School.
  • Applicants must show a strong educational interest and dedication to learning.
  • Applicants must display acceptable character and behavior.
  • Applicants must demonstrate leadership through academic achievements at Holy Spirit and West Catholic and by volunteering in community activities in the Greater Grand Rapids area.

To Apply:

  • Please list all academic achievements received at Holy Spirit and/or West Catholic High School.

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year at West Catholic or Catholic Central.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must demonstrate good student citizenship, good moral character and respect for authority.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must supply a letter of recommendation from a teacher, staff member or priest.
MSGR. CHARLES D. BROPHY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,350 (multiple scholarships to be awarded)

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year at West Catholic or Catholic Central with preference going to students from St. Jude Parish.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.

To Apply:

  • All applicants must write a minimum of a two-page essay describing why the scholarship will make a positive difference in their educational endeavors.
MICHAEL G. CHERRETTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,200 (multiple scholarships to be awarded)

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year. A scholarship with a minimum value of $1,000 will be awarded to at least one student annually. Additional scholarships and/or higher value scholarships may be awarded dependent upon the amount of funds available for scholarships and the applications submitted. Recipients may reapply each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship. (If a financial need persists and the family states its financial case in the annual application process, this scholarship can be used by the same student for tuition assistance for all four years.)
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must have completed 15 hours of community service as a 9th-grader, 20 hours of community service as a 10th-grader and 30 hours of community service as an 11th-grader.
  • Applicants must be of good character and demonstrate consistent respect for authority.

To Apply:

  • Proof of GPA, in the form of the previous year’s report card or a letter from the school, must accompany the scholarship application.
  • Documentation of community/church service from the agency where the service was performed must be included.
  • Two letters from teachers, parish priests, neighbors, etc. explaining why they feel the student should be considered for this scholarship are required.

Additional Requirements:

Mr. Cherrette was the boys and girls golf coach at West Catholic for many years and he taught the benefits and value of sportsmanship to his teams. The candidates for this scholarship must write a two-page essay, not to exceed 500 words, explaining their understanding of the word sportsmanship and how it has impacted their life. Sportsmanship transcends athletics – the benefit of being a “good sport” can be used on a day-to-day basis.

MILES V. & CECELIA A. SCHMIDT FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: Varies

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must be practicing Catholics who believe in the teachings of the Church.
  • Preference will be given to students from families supporting multiple children in the Catholic school system.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must write a two-page paper describing the effect your family and your faith have on your vision of the United States of America, the role of the military and the role the government plays in our lives. Please include suggestions you might have to strengthen and improve the culture of the U.S.
MULDER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: Varies (multiple scholarships to be awarded)

Scholarship Criteria:

This is an experience-based scholarship open to any current student.

The Mulder Family Scholarship is about expanding student horizons through experiences. This scholarship will encourage the student experience in the following areas:

  1. Out West Trip: Available for a West Catholic student who desires to participate in the “Out West Trip.” Financial aid for the student is need-based and the student(s) must be in good standing with the school.
  2. Science-Based Experience: Available to a West Catholic student who desires to participate in a science-based experience, such as Space Camp, Robotics Camp, etc. that is approved by West Catholic High School. Student(s) must be in good standing.

To Apply:

  • Information will be available to students in the Out West Packet.

The student(s) receiving this scholarship will be chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee from the pool of students applying for financial assistance. No specific application or action is necessary.

PATRICK & JACQUELINE MURPHY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,400

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore or junior year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship. It may be used to assist the same student with tuition assistance for all four years he/she attends West Catholic if a financial need persists and the family states its financial case in the annual scholarship application process.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (C+ average) or higher.
  • Applicants must complete 15 hours of community or church service on an annual basis.
  • Applicants must be of good character and demonstrate consistent respect for authority.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must provide proof of their 2.5 GPA/C+ average by sending in a copy of their report card from the previous year or a letter from their school.
  • Documentation of community/church service from the agency where the service was performed must be included.
  • Two letters from teachers, parish priests, neighbors, etc. explaining why they feel the student should be considered for this scholarship must accompany the application.
POLISH-AMERICAN HISTORY / DAVID C. LUKOWITZ SCHOLARSHIPS

Award: $3,000 (multiple scholarships to be awarded)

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore or junior year. Two scholarships (one West Catholic Polish-American History Endowed Scholarship and one West Catholic David C. Lukowitz Scholarship) will be awarded to students attending West Catholic High School on an annual basis.

  • Preference will be given to students of Polish-American descent (one parent or grandparent of Polish descent). Any student may be eligible to apply, provided they agree to work on the Polish American project described below.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (C+ average) or higher.

To Apply:

  • Applicants are required to produce a project that deals with the Polish-American experience in Grand Rapids.
  • The project should be based on primary sources (newspapers, church newsletters, family photo albums, birth/marriage/death certificates, diaries, letters, or an oral history by interviewing a Polish relative about their experiences). The Polish-American historical societies or the Polish Halls may be a good source of information.
  • The paper, project or recording of an interview may involve a variety of topics; Polish-American women in Grand Rapids, a story of a Polish-American family over generations, a history of a Catholic parish or school, stories of social or cultural societies (St. Ladislaus, Sacred Heart, Polish Falcons, Polish athletes, Polish businesses, etc.). Students are encouraged to study the history of their own family, parish or family business.
  • Students who do an exceptional job should be encouraged to submit their papers or project for publication or to donate a copy to interested parties involved in the project.
REILLY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $3,500

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore or junior year at West Catholic or Catholic Central. The scholarship will be awarded to one student attending West Catholic and one student attending Catholic Central on an annual basis.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship. It may be used to assist the same student with tuition assistance for all four years he/she attends Grand Rapids Catholic Central/West Catholic if a financial need persists and the family states its financial case in the annual scholarship application process.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (C+ average) or higher.
  • Applicants must be of good character and demonstrate consistent respect for authority.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must provide proof of their 2.5 GPA/C+ average by sending in a copy of their report card from the previous year or a letter from their school.
  • Documentation of community/church service from the agency where the service was performed must be included.
  • Two letters from teachers, parish priest, neighbors, etc. explaining why they feel the student should be considered for a scholarship must accompany the application.
REV. JAMES C. KOWALSKI SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $1,750 (multiple scholarships to be awarded)

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year at West Catholic or Catholic Central. A minimum of one scholarship should be awarded each year per high school.

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman year at West Catholic or Catholic Central. One scholarship will be awarded to a West Catholic student and one scholarship will be awarded to a Catholic Central student each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have maintained a GPA of 2.0 (C average) in 8th grade.
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of 20 hours of community service in 8th grade.

ROBERT & LARITA STEPHANAK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,900

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore or junior year. If financial need persists and the family states its financial case in the annual application process, this scholarship can be used by the same student for tuition assistance for all four years.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be registered members of a parish within the Diocese of Grand Rapids.
  • Applicants must complete 15 hours of community or church service on an annual basis.

  • Applicants must provide proof of their GPA in the form of their previous year’s report card or a letter from the school.
  • Proof of parish registration must accompany the scholarship application.

ROBERT W. MYSLIWIEC FALCON AWARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to West Catholic families with more than one child attending West Catholic during the same year. It will be awarded to one eligible West Catholic family on an annual basis.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have more than one child enrolled at West Catholic for the given school year.

To Apply:

  • Complete the scholarship application form.
  • Families must also complete a Blackbaud Financial Aid Management application to be considered.

The student(s) receiving this scholarship will be chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee from the pool of students applying for financial assistance. No specific application or action is necessary.

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman year at West Catholic or Catholic Central. One scholarship will be awarded.

  • Applicants must be a registered member of Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Rockford, Mich.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated acceptable character and behavior.

SMITH-VERKIN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,300

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. It is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may reapply each year; however, they must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must be a member of Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Rockford, Mich. (does not need to be an OLC student) *Parish membership is determined by the pastor.

ST. JOHN PAUL II SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,500

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year. It is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may reapply each year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.

To Apply:

  • Submit two letters of recommendation from a non-related Catholic priest, deacon, principal, assistant principal, counselor or teacher attesting to the applicant’s character and suitability to the Catholic priesthood or religious life.
ST. PATRICK-BLUNDY LEGACY FUND

Award: Varies

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman year and who are determined (by the parish priest) to be a parishioner of good standing at St. Patrick Parish, Parnell, Mich. Funds will be equally distributed on an annual basis.

  • Financial need is not a necessary requirement for this scholarship.
  • Scholarships will be awarded directly to the student’s tuition account.
  • Recipients will have the option of reinvesting their scholarship back into the fund instead of accepting it should they so desire.

The student(s) receiving this scholarship will be chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee from the pool of students applying for financial assistance. No specific application or action is necessary.

ST. PETER CLAVER SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $2,600

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B average) or higher.
  • Applicants must have an outstanding attendance record.
  • Applicants must be of good character and demonstrate consistent respect for authority.

To Apply:

  • Applicants must write a two-page essay explaining what you see as interesting and important about the life of St. Peter Claver.

The scholarship is designed to provide for students of Spanish or African American descent who can demonstrate financial need and meet the above academic standards. In the event that students of these descents are not available or cannot meet these standards, then the award can be made to any student of any other descent who would otherwise qualify for the scholarship.

STEVEN CHULSKI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: $1,950 (multiple scholarships to be awarded)

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to female students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year who are willing to explore the skilled trades as a career. Skilled trades would include future employment as an electrician, welder, tool and die-maker, machine repair, plumber, construction, etc.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher (or equivalent).

To Apply:

  • To demonstrate an interest in the skilled trades, applicants must write a two-page essay covering the following topics:
    • Which of the skilled trades interest you most and why?
    • What is/are the pathway(s) to entering this trade?
    • Give a basic job description of duties and responsibilities.
    • What is the typical wage rates for this occupation?
    • What interests you the most and the least about this occupation?
VANGESSEL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $1,700

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman year. It will be awarded to one student per year.

  • Financial need is a primary consideration in awarding this scholarship.
  • Applicants must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 (B average) in the eighth grade.
  • Applicants must have completed 15 hours of community or church service during their eighth-grade year.

  • Applicants must complete the current academic year in band.

    • What being involved in music means to them (in general and at West Catholic High School).

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE AWARD

Award: $500

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year. This is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may reapply each year.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 (C average) or higher.

  • Applicants must write a two-page essay explaining what the Blessed Mother means to them.
ROBERT AND DARLENE DEBRI TUITION ASSISTANCE FUND

Award: $250 *scholarship will be endowed in 2029

This fund was created to honor the legacy of Robert and Darlene Debri and recognize their
commitment to Catholic school education. Through their dedication and sacrifice, they were able to provide a Catholic education for their five children, having at least one child enrolled in Catholic schools from 1986 until 2014.

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year. It is a one-year scholarship. Recipients may be reconsidered each year.

  • Students enrolled at West Catholic whose families who have at least three children enrolled in K-12 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids.

TOM REGAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $500

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship was set up in memory of Thomas Regan who was a senior at West Catholic (Class of 1989) when he passed. It is open to students entering their sophomore year.

  • Financial need is not a necessary requirement for this scholarship.
  • Applicants should exhibit the same “free spirit” that Tom Regan had during his life and display a “coachable” attitude with a willingness to help others.
  • Applicants must be dedicated to continuing his/her education and must be in good academic standing.

WALKER TO WEST SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $500

Scholarship Criteria:

This scholarship is open to students entering their freshman year. This scholarship may be renewed until graduation.

  • The student must be a graduate of Walker Charter Academy.
  • Participation in the West Catholic Band is required freshman year.
