JV Boys Basketball Coach

Wesr Catholic High School is looking for a Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This individual will serve as a positive role model for students, coaching staff and the community while upholding the values of the Catholic faith 
  • Provides leadership that develops and promotes a unified athletic philosophy 
  • Cultivates relationships with current and prospective students 
  • Demonstrates proper sportsmanlike conduct and respect for players, officials, opponents, fans and other coaches 
  • Understands and maintains the standards of the West Catholic Athletic Handbook 
  • Maintains good public relations with parents, officials, players and fans 
  • Manages athletic activities, contests and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and good sportsmanship 
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, staff and school administration 
  • Works with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes 
  • Establishes performance criteria for competition and evaluates students’ athletic abilities on a regular basis
  • Takes all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes 
  • Conducts a parent meeting prior to the start of the season 
  • Motivates student-athletes to participate and sustain interest in the program 
  • Monitors and enforces student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation 
  • Works with the Athletic Director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements
  • Supervises student-athletes during athletic competitions and program functions 
  • Instructs and advises students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices 
  • Maintains proper files and copies of all pertinent MHSAA, OK Conference and West Catholic athletic policies, ensuring these guidelines are followed 
  • Applies and enforces student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook 
  • Encourages sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times 
  • Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, teachers and administration 
  • Understands, supports and performs roles in admissions, development and advancement
  • Follows the set fundraising policies and procedures set by the development office 
  • Attends, participates and promotes West Catholic fundraising events 

Job Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school is preferred 
  • College or high school coaching experience is preferred 
  • Must have a desire to work in a Catholic school and a concern for the well-being of student-athletes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount; extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures 
  • Knowledge of MHSAA, OK Conference and West Catholic Athletic Handbook policies, with demonstrated commitment to adhering to policies/standards

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries or complaints from students and/or parents

  • Works with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes 
  • Ensures that all softball coaches work together toward a common goal within the softball program and provide unity for grades 9-12 
  • Establishes performance criteria for competition and evaluates students’ athletic abilities on a regular basis 
  • Aligns with West Catholic’s strength and conditioning program mandating two in-season lifts per week and three out-of-season lifts per week 
  • Takes all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes

Bus Driver - School Transportation

West Catholic High School is looking to hire a School Transportation Bus Driver for 20+ hours/week during the school year (mostly morning/afternoon school hours, but some hours may be available for events during evenings and weekends).

Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport high school and elementary students to and from school or school-related activities following a set route and schedule
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during transportation
  • Conduct van pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure it is in good working condition
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations
  • Maintain a clean and organized van interior
  • Promote the mission-centered work of the schools in daily interaction with students, coworkers, parents/guardians and members of the community

Qualifications:

  • Maintain a valid State of Michigan CDL

Requirements:

  • Ability to provide positive communication to students and parents
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Complete the required training for school bus drivers
  • Pass a background check, drug screening and DOT physical; submit to random drug and alcohol tests and in-vehicle monitoring to ensure safe driving

Paid training and starts at $21/hr. Part-time employee health benefits are available.

Position is eligible for current part-time employee tuition discount of 33% after one year of service for students attending West Catholic High School or Catholic Central High School.
