Ryan Greenop named Commended Scholar

by | Oct 12, 2023 | Alumni, Parents, Staff, Students

We are proud to applaud our own Ryan Greenop upon being named a National Merit Commended Scholar. Greenop, a senior at West Catholic, was given this recognition based on his excellent Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) score. After National Merit’s initial screen of nearly 1.3 million entrants, Greenop scored within the top 4% earning him this special distinction.

When discussing this exceptional accomplishment, Ryan did not hesitate to credit others for the roles they’ve played in his academic achievements. “I credit my parents, who have been so supportive,” Ryan stated. He appreciates their encouragement of him in all of his endeavors even from the time he was in elementary school. He also attributes his success to the West Catholic school culture: “I like the size and being able to know my classmates.” He believes the smaller school atmosphere has provided him opportunity for more personalized support. As he reflected on the positive influence of his teachers, he exclaimed, “I actually like all of my teachers!” Miss Oullette and Mr. Beaudoin are two in particular from whom he has gleaned encouragement and enjoyment. He extends his heartfelt gratitude to them!

Outside of academics, Greenop has been active both on the stage through the theater program as well as on the tennis courts with his teammates. He recalls that his transition to high school was a little jarring as he sought balance amid school work and extracurriculars. To a younger Falcon, he would advise, first and foremost, “Stay on top of homework! High school is very different from middle school.”

Ryan looks forward to attending college next fall, though he’s not yet decided on a school. In the meantime, he will be soaking up his senior year, and you can catch him on stage as he stars as Gilbert Blythe in the upcoming performance of Anne of Green Gables

Congratulations, Ryan!
